The 19th Women’s Mediterranean Handball Confederation Championship officially got underway today with a full opening round of preliminary matches, as teams across Group A and Group B began their campaigns at the Palace of Youth and Sports.
Group A: Spain and Romania Set the Early Pace
Group A opened with a dominant performance from Spain, who overwhelmed Kosovo 39:13 to take an early lead in the standings.
Romania followed with a convincing 27:12 victory over Bulgaria, matching Spain on points.
The most balanced contest of the group saw Türkiye edge past Montenegro 19:18, keeping the race for qualification wide open.
Group B: Croatia and Slovakia Make Strong Statements
In Group B, Croatia opened their tournament in emphatic fashion, defeating Slovenia 21:7.
Slovakia also impressed with a solid 27:14 win against Greece.
The tightest match of the day came in the clash between North Macedonia and Italy, where Italy secured a narrow 21:19 victory.
